For two years now, Altona have been holding a stance that confidently straddles the
fickle line between underground and mainstream. Their DIY ethics combined with an
essentially ‘pop’ approach to songwriting has found them best described as “esoteric
alt-pop,” and an emotionally engaging live show has been steadily earning them a
loyal fanbase throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Their most recent single, Favourite Books, which was accompanied by a video comprised of candid footage from their western Canadian tour last summer, blends open, summery tones with a rhythmic urgency that invokes that ambiguous blend of hopefulness for the future and bittersweet nostalgia.
Altona is currently working on a full-length follow up to 2015's self-titled EP, which will again be released through their own label, Big Smoke, in 2017.

"The album blends dense, precise guitars, driving drums and a raw, expressive vocal style (reminiscent at times of Tokyo Police Club’s David Monks) with a lyrical eye for the authenticity and unfettered emotion of youth – as well as the imminence of its passing."
